We are dishing who wore what to the Oscars on BagThatStyle all day today, but my obsession du jour obviously revolves around the handbags. The Oscars are notorious for parties and events leading up to the big awards show and following it and Chanel takes part with their CHANEL and Charles Finch pre-Oscar dinner at Madeo in Los Angeles.
The stars made their way to the event decked head to toe in Chanel of course. Most Chanel bags are eye-catching and obvious, but I love seeing a little jewel that Chanel always manages to deliver. This time Emma Roberts impressed me with both her outfit and her Chanel Black Leather Bag with Butterfly Detail.
I adore how her hand can slide between the bag and the butterfly. It makes this bag a true accessory in the way that it catches your eye immediately. Even though this bag is for Spring 2011, it can easily transition to winter as well. And you know what else? The price really is not that bad. I have a skewed view on handbag prices, but with the ever-rising prices at Chanel, $2100 for this clutch seems reasonable. I’m officially in love (and isn’t Emma Roberts great for how age appropriate she always dresses?).
Inquire via Chanel.

Didn’t you hear? A very specific shade of pink called “honeysuckle” is supposed to be the color of 2011, or so say the fine folks at Pantone. Kaiser Karl Lagerfeld can clearly tell the future and saw this coming, because the perfect pink Chanel Python Timeless Clutch that you see above just came out for Cruise 2011.
Lagerfeld and Chanel usually design and sell whatever they please with little acknowledgement of passing trends, so it surprised me to see this clutch surface in this particular shade of pink at exactly the same time as Pantone made its yearly announcement. But even if pink hadn’t just been dubbed an “it” color, whatever that means, this clutch would still be more or less perfect. I’m not even a great lover of pink, and I have no problem admitting that.
The Timeless Clutch has always been ideally shaped and sized for toting essentials to almost any evening event, and dressing such a pretty clutch in a candy-colored exotic only makes it more fun and desirable. If you have a spring event on your calendar (perhaps a wedding?), this is the clutch you need to be carrying. The Chanel rep I contacted didn’t have a price for this piece yet, although the black python Timeless Clutch retails for $3250. Contact Chanel at 800-550-0005 to inquire.

Oh, Karl Lagerfeld is so clever. Or crazy. Maybe both! Yes, probably both. But this time, I think he might be crazy like a fox – the Chanel Casette Clutch is not only kind of hilarious (you know, in a droll fashion sort of way), but it’s totally useable (well, if you’re the type that would use a tiny, clear clutch.)
UPDATE: The clutch is vintage and for sale! Make the jump for more info.
Thanks to lovely commenter V., we’ve been pointed to the real origins of this lovely clutch: ShopLuxirare.com. Several blogs picked up these pictures from Luxuo.com yesterday, who did not indicate that they had taken the pictures from a vintage shop instead of from a press release or editorial, as is far more common. But now we know the truth!
The clutch is a lucite relic from the 80s (ok, nevermind, it seems as though no one is exactly sure when this clutch was made – perhaps as recently as a few years ago), and the shop owner says that it’s one-of-a-kind (take that with a grain of salt.) Not only is the clutch utterly lovely and available for $1500, but ShopLuxirare.com is absolutely chock full of awesome finds, both vintage and contemporary. Even if you don’t want to buy the clutch, you should check out the site for the awesome eye candy. Buy through ShopLuxirare.com for $1500.
Lucite box clutches like this one are sort of popular lately – the Spring/Summer 2010 Fendi lucite clutches are selling out all over the place. The material and shape has a midcentury modern appeal to it that fits in with a lot of emerging trends, so it’s only logical that they’d be popular.
What Chanel did, however, was give the lucite box clutch some 80s cred. At this point in the iTunes universe, cassettes are an object of pure, good-natured nostalgia, and as someone that associates them with my childhood I couldn’t help but smile when I saw this bag. Although we’ve seen the 80s trend wane a bit in the past season, it’s nowhere near over and this clutch is a welcome addition.
For pricing information, please contact your local Chanel boutique.

Look at this clutch. Look at this clutch. Not only is it vintage Chanel, but it is beautiful, gold, and best of all, not tacky in the slightest. Could we ever expect Chanel to be? I think not.
But via vintage powerhouse What Goes Around Comes Around, Shopbop is again bringing in some unbelievable vintage Chanel with which to fill our closets. And this beautiful, queenly, sophisticated Vintage Chanel Gold Bar Clutch is absolutely no exception. Now, besides the fact that it oozes 50’s glamour more than a sponge oozes water, the size is of particular note.

You see, this clutch is tiny. It’s miniscule, perfect for holding delicately in the palm of your hand. That unique tiny size for clutches is hard to come by this day and age, where massive envelope clutches are all the rage. See? The power of this clutch has even inspired me to rhyme, like a handbag blogger muse has touched me. But that’s quite beside the point. What is on topic? I really cannot think of any evening gown (or 50’s wasp waist dress, why not?) that this would not complement. Buy through Shopbop for $4,180.
