The writing is not very good – more like a stream of advertorials. There is overwhelming praise of the work of Chanel – flattery like – without any criticism or analysis. However the images are good if you are collecting pictures of designs Chanel dress over time. “Chanel and her world is a better book – was put together with more thought. “Chanel: The Couturière At Work” is only a thin book – more like a magazine, with the prose inconsistent. Get it used. Rating: 3 / 5

Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel is appropriately profiled in this book, which she had very humble beginnings to his rise and fall – and rise – it is an insightful biography of the woman and her work, which were for all intents and purposes inseparable. The authors not only catch the drive and determination that Coco pushed upwards, but cleverly illustrate how amazingly ahead of its time was the designer, and how his work and ideas permeate the fashion, even a day ‘s today. Do not let the absurdities and excesses of both Chanel runway today fooled – this woman was a visionary of his time, and the quintessential American design has been, paradoxically, sports, practical, with a spare elegance, although it was Yet a French through and through. The early drawings of his clothes before they are included here and are fascinating. There are precious few, because – as the book says – Coco Chanel favorite design on the body, with live models. She was a perfectionist par excellence who brought the trends that transcended their time, and this book is worth a modest addition to the library, if you’re interested at all in the foundations of the fashion of the twentieth century. There are many books on Chanel, I do not I read them all, so this is not a comparison, only the opinions of a fan of Couturière as an artist. Rating: 4 / 5
