“Jewels should be viewed with innocence, with naiveté, as one would enjoy apple blossoms by the roadside as you speed past in a car.”

It was inevitable that Chanel would offer an Apple Ipod case sometime or another. According to a profile in the U.K.’s Daily Telegraph, Karl Lagerfeld owned forty Ipods at last count, now suddenly growing to a collection of seventy in December 2004! When asked if his collection is rather excessive, he answered “If I like something I like to have a lot of it,’ he says dismissively. ‘Eccentric? Perhaps I am. But then I know only how I am, not how others are. I never compare, I never compete.”

For Fall we have a fun and whimsical purse named “Precious Symbols”. It is decorated with all the iconic symbols we have come to recognize as synonymous with the house of Chanel. The number 5, the camellia, CC monogram and the four leaf clover are all there. The purse is a small clutch size shoulder bag with chain strap. Available in black velvet and black patent leather, the latter is priced at $995. That is a deal for a Chanel bag!

Mischa Barton, Chloe Sevigny and Penelope Cruz are standing by their trusty Chanel “quilted classic flap bag”. Mischa’s is a limited edition baby blue that came out a few seasons ago. Often called the 2.55 purse, sales associates simply refer to this purse as the “classic flap bag”. This purse is the foundation of any handbag collection. It is complete with double chain shoulder strap invented by Coco Chanel to free up use of a woman’s hands and quilted design inspired by jockey’s coats. Also featuring exterior love letter pocket, double flap closure and interior pockets to keep lipstick and compacts secure, it offers everything a lady needs. In the 1980’s Karl Lagerfeld put the CC monogram turn clasp into the design. There are few purses that have lasted the test of time such as this one. This classic can be worn for evenings or even daytime paired up with jeans as Miss Cruz has.

Nicole Richie’s purse is a triple chain strap pochette in gold from a previous season. Kate Moss is wearing a quilted Chanel tote bag that is part of the year round collection. The tote measures 25 x 19 x 10 centimeters. It is now available in beige, pink and black. It has large CC’s on the side of the bag. Ashely Olsen carries her Chanel “cerf tote” to yoga classes. The bag is also known as “Grand Shopping” and “Petite Shopping”, depending on size. The ceft tote has been reissued most years as a part of their regular line. Cerf means deer in French, hence the tote being made of deer skin. CC clasp hardware comes in gold for Spring/Summer or rhodium for Fall/Winter. Over the different seasons the tote has been available in black, white, brown and tan.

Anna Mouglalis is a French actress who started out in low budget student films. Karl Lagerfeld soon took note of her being that she really is stunning in motion. She has pure French beauty comparable to Bridgette Bardot or Laetitia Costa. Perhaps this is what Karl saw in her when he made her the Chanel ambassador, a more prestigious term for spokes model.
In 2002 there was plans to focus the whole haute couture advertisements around her as well as have her show up on the runway. Various sources speculate that her reputation at the time was too risqué, being that she was in very provocative films that year not to mention she was virtually unknown even to most Parisian’s.
Since then she has become a sort of muse or entourage to Karl. She is in the front row of runway shows and often by his side back stage being photographed near the models. She graced us with her classic beauty in one Allure perfume ad. Surely she will be seen at Chanel events for many years more to come.
