Chanel No. 5 - A Timeless Classic

Chanel No. 5 is the timeless perfume that many women swear by. Created in 1921, the perfume has always come in a very simple art deco bottle. Coco Chanel wanted the bottle to take backstage, making the perfume itself the enigma and focus. No. 5 is made just as it was eighty four years ago. It has eighty three ingredients, major ones being aldehydes. Aldehydes are lab created molecules. Coco Chanel choose her ingredients with innovation. Most other perfumers only used flower essences as well as only letting one particular flower essence be bottled alone. Coco mixed, and used synthetics, an idea that not had been fully explored in the world of perfume as of yet. In some ways she paved the way for the perfume world for years to come. With top notes of ylang-ylang, neroli, aldehydes, middle notes of jasmine and mayrose, and under notes of sandalwood and vetiver you have a very complex concoction, though it is not hard on the nose. Chanel No. 5 results in a lovely light feminine perfume that smells almost of baby powder, but with deep musk undertones that make the scent last. This perfume is perfect for ladies of all ages who want to feel classic, but almost playful. When asked what Marilyn Monroe wore to bed, she was quoted as saying “Chanel No. 5″, and that’s all!
